Global interest in Khadi grows, govt plans outlets under franchisee model

Leading Indian fashion brands like Raymond and Aditya Birla Fashion are also trying to cash in on khadi and have signed exclusive partnerships with KVIC to sell and develop khadi products in India.Raymond, India’s leading textile and apparel conglomerate, recently launched India’s first branded Khadi label, ‘Khadi by Raymond’. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also actively promoting khadi and in his latest radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, urged people to gift khadi products, which is likely to give a boost to khadi sales. The Prime Minister also recalled his last visit to London, where Queen Elizabeth showed him small thread-spun khadi handkerchief, gifted to her by Mahatma Gandhi as a wedding gift.
